The referral process can be cumbersome and time-intensive for provider systems, making closed-loop referrals a significant challenge. UPMC leveraged Direct Secure Messaging and ADT Event Notifications to integrate their EHR physician consults with their centralized intake department, transforming the manual referral workflow into an automated closed-loop process.
