New Certification for UHIN’s cHIE Direct Makes Meaningful Use Simpler to Achieve

Secure Exchange Solutions, which powers cHIE Direct secure messaging, is one of the first HISPs to complete testing under the recently expanded 2014 Edition health IT certification criteria for secure Direct transport

Salt Lake City, UT, May 18, 2015 – The Utah Health Information Network (UHIN) announced that users of its cHIE Direct secure email now have more flexible options for meeting Meaningful Use Stages 2 and 3. Secure Exchange Solutions, UHIN’s technical partner, recently achieved ONC HIT 2014 Edition Release 2 Modular EHR certification for its Direct secure transport. This certification allows ambulatory and inpatient providers to meet their Meaningful Use goals through solutions either built into or running alongside their Electronic Health Record (EHR).

“This certification reinforces UHIN’s commitment to innovation,” said Teresa Rivera, CEO of UHIN. “Together with cHIE Alerts, a crucial tool for continuity of care which notifies providers of patient hospitalization, and our claim attachment and prior authorization programs, which have been revolutionary in bringing Direct to health plans and reducing claim processing times, this certification further expands the value of Direct secure messaging for our members.”

The certification affirms that cHIE Direct (powered by SES Direct) offers the functionality needed for inpatient and ambulatory provider customers to comply with the recently expanded 2014 Edition health IT certification criteria that is focused on secure transports, specifically §170.314(h)(1).  Providers can now meet the Meaningful Use transition of care requirements by sending summary of care documents through cHIE Direct.

Health information technology vendors working with UHIN can also leverage the certification, which allows them to benefit from the secure transport functionality of the cHIE Direct platform without recertifying.
